Transportation Electrification Case Study

University of California San Diego Electric Vehicle Charger Grid Impact Study

Overview

In 2016 AESC provided a broad range of transportation electrification and grid impact analysis services to University of California San Diego (UCSD), California Energy Commission, and SDG&E. The project provided proof of concept for university implementation of electric vehicle (EV) charging while on the University’s grid. The services included planning, installation, operation, and usage analysis of 29 chargers at UCSD’s campus. The chargers included fleet, workplace and DC fast chargers for student use. Partnerships with local EV short-term car rental also encouraged students and staff to drive more miles in EVs.
