Alternative Energy Systems Consulting (AESC) is an engineering practice that provides integrated demand side management (IDSM) support, supply side and grid intelligence, project measurement and verification, and corporate sustainability services across the United States. Since 1996, AESC’s software practice has been developing custom tools for utility Demand Side Management programs. The AESC software team has developed a suite of customized calculation and analytics tools for several leading North American utilities, as well as embedded controllers for industrial applications.

The Software Engineer will design, modify, develop, write and implement software programming applications. Supports and/or installs software applications/operating systems. Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

AESC is an energy engineering consulting firm with a collaborative and professional work environment. We are passionate about what we do and are looking for talented engineers who share our passion.

We currently have an opening in our Portland office for an experienced Energy Engineer to provide technical leadership supporting a variety of energy efficiency programs. This position requires not only strong technical and analytical skills, but also proven communication and customer engagement skills. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the energy field, with specific experience in the industrial market sector.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct investment grade energy efficiency studies at commercial and industrial facilities including performing all required analysis and drafting reports describing capital opportunities
  • Support Strategic Energy Management (SEM) coaching programs by working directly with customers on the implementation of behavioral and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) opportunities
  • Utilize measurement and verification tools and methodologies to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for, energy systems and equipment
  • Work closely with customers at their facilities to coach them on finding and eliminating energy waste within energy using systems
  • Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for submittal to clients
  • Interact closely with project manager and teammates to meet project deadlines and budgets

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering degree required, mechanical engineering degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in energy related field
  • Strong working knowledge of various systems in industrial facilities (e.g., CHP, compressed air, refrigeration, boilers, water/wastewater, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience performing in-depth, investment grade, energy efficiency studies
  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Proficiency with a variety of energy analysis tools software
  • Excellent PC skills with expertise in MS Excel
  • Must have reliable transportation, this position requires travel to customer sites
