Alternative Energy Systems Consulting (AESC) is an engineering practice that provides integrated demand side management (IDSM) support, supply side and grid intelligence, project measurement and verification, and corporate sustainability services across the United States. Since 1996, AESC’s software practice has been developing custom tools for utility Demand Side Management programs. The AESC software team has developed a suite of customized calculation and analytics tools for several leading North American utilities, as well as embedded controllers for industrial applications.

The Software Engineer will design, modify, develop, write and implement software programming applications. Supports and/or installs software applications/operating systems. Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct ASHRAE level II and investment grade energy efficiency audits and retro commissioning (RCx) investigations at commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Perform complex energy and financial analyses leveraging appropriate software and hardware tools, including meter and logger deployment, interval data analysis, BAS/SCADA/enterprise metering software, utility bills, energy modeling, energy savings calculations, cost estimation, and life cycle cost analysis.
  • Research and evaluate innovative approaches towards energy efficiency, demand response, energy resiliency and renewable energy.
  • Use analytical tools and measurement and verification methodologies to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for, energy systems and equipment.
  • Work directly with customers on the implementation of behavioral, RCx and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) opportunities.

  • Demonstrated experience performing in-depth, investment grade, energy efficiency audits and RCx investigations
  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Proficiency with a variety of energy analysis tools software
  • Excellent PC skills with expertise in MS Excel
  • Must have reliable transportation, this position requires travel to customer sites

This position requires strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will have 2-3 years of experience in the energy field.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for energy efficiency, demand response, and self-generation measures for submittal to clients.
  • Conduct site inspections and/or gather data needed to perform energy-related analyses of sites or equipment.
  • Utilize analytical tools and measurement and verification methodologies to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for, energy systems and equipment.
  • Conduct energy audits in industrial, commercial, agricultural, and municipal facilities.
  • Interact closely with project managers and clients in order to meet project deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree required in an Engineering discipline, ME preferred.
  • EIT (FE) Certification, PE and/or CEM preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in energy engineering or design engineering (HVAC or process).
  • Proficiency with Energy Modeling software (e.g. eQUEST, EnergyPro, EnergyPLus, TRACE 700, etc).
  • Basic understanding of measure-based energy analysis tools – Air Master, PSAT, SSAT, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, lighting, motors, steam, refrigeration, and industrial equipment.
  • Basic understanding of energy de-regulation, demand side management, supply side management, permanent load shifting, and demand response.
  • Basic understanding of ASHRAE audit levels.
  • Basic understanding of energy codes and design standards – ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24, ASHRAE 62, etc.
  • Basic understanding of benchmarking concepts and resources – ENERGY STAR, CEC, etc.
  • Basic understanding of IPMVP M&V Protocols.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork and interact with clients in a professional and responsive manner.
  • Must have reliable transportation, this position requires travel to customer sites.
