We currently have an opening in our Carlsbad office for an experienced Energy Engineer to provide technical leadership supporting a variety of energy efficiency programs. This position not only requires strong technical and analytical skills, but also proven communication and customer engagement skills. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the energy field, with specific experience in the industrial market sector.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct ASHRAE level II and investment grade energy efficiency audits and retro commissioning (RCx) investigations at commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Perform complex energy and financial analyses leveraging appropriate software and hardware tools, including meter and logger deployment, interval data analysis, BAS/SCADA/enterprise metering software, utility bills, energy modeling, energy savings calculations, cost estimation, and life cycle cost analysis.
  • Research and evaluate innovative approaches towards energy efficiency, demand response, energy resiliency and renewable energy.
  • Use analytical tools and measurement and verification methodologies to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for, energy systems and equipment.
  • Work directly with customers on the implementation of behavioral, RCx and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) opportunities.
  • Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for submittal to clients.
  • Interact closely with project manager and teammates to meet project deadlines and budgets.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering degree required, mechanical engineering degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in energy related field
  • Practical experience and strong working knowledge of various systems in industrial facilities (e.g., CHP, compressed air, refrigeration, boilers, water/wastewater, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience performing in-depth, investment grade, energy efficiency audits and RCx investigations
  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Proficiency with a variety of energy analysis tools software
  • Excellent PC skills with expertise in MS Excel
  • Must have reliable transportation, this position requires travel to customer sites
