AESC is seeking an experienced Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to provide technical leadership supporting a variety of energy efficiency programs in our Oakland, CA office. This position not only requires strong technical and analytical skills, but also proven communication and customer engagement skills. The successful candidate will have at least 7 years of experience in the energy or water/wastewater field, with specific experience in optimizing water/wastewater facilities preferred.


  • Conduct ASHRAE level II and investment grade energy efficiency audits and retro commissioning (RCx) investigations at commercial, industrial, and municipal (water/wastewater) facilities.
  • Perform complex energy and financial analyses leveraging appropriate software and hardware tools, including meter and logger deployment, interval data analysis, BAS/SCADA/enterprise metering software, utility bills, energy modeling, energy savings calculations, cost estimation, and life cycle cost analysis.
  • Research and evaluate innovative approaches towards energy efficiency, demand response, energy resiliency and renewable energy.
  • Use analytical tools and measurement and verification methodologies to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for, energy systems and equipment.
  • Work directly with customers on the implementation of behavioral, RCx and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) opportunities.
  • Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for submittal to clients.
  • Interact closely with program manager and teammates to meet project deadlines and budgets.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Assist in marketing business opportunities with key clients and RFPs/RFQs.
  • Assist with presentations to governing boards and municipalities.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, mechanical engineering degree preferred, although chemical engineering degree is acceptable if candidate has mechanical systems experience.
  • Project Management experience or certification a plus.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in energy or water/wastewater-related field
  • Practical experience and strong working knowledge of various systems in industrial facilities (e.g., CHP, compressed air, refrigeration, boilers, water/wastewater, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience performing in-depth, investment grade, energy efficiency audits and RCx investigations
  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional and collaborative manner through written reports and excellent oral communication. Experience with meeting facilitation preferred.
  • Proficiency with a variety of energy analysis tools software including expertise in MS Excel.
  • Must have reliable transportation, this position requires travel to customer sites
