AESC is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager or Facilities Specialist to provide technical support to energy efficiency programs in our Portland office. The successful candidate would bring experience across the variety of building systems common to commercial buildings, including but not limited to HVAC, lighting, boilers, Direct Digital Control (DDC), and Building Automation Systems (BAS). This position will not manage the operations at one specific facility, but rather will focus on working with several commercial building owners and occupants to identify and implement strategies in the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of buildings resulting in energy savings. Other responsibilities may include whole building facility audits, energy analysis, and project development. 

The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong communication skills, excellent customer engagement skills, and intellectual curiosity beyond their core scope. The successful candidate will have 3 years of experience in the facilities management and/or building operations fields. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to improve building system O&M within HVAC, lighting, boilers, and controls systems.
  • Conduct building inspections, energy audits, and gather data needed to perform energy-related analyses of buildings systems and equipment.
  • In a collaborative team environment, help facilitate conversations between customers and coach them on common best practices.
  • Utilize analysis tools to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for, energy systems and equipment.
  • Evaluate the energy use patterns for commercial buildings and recommend energy efficiency measures and renewable energy solutions.
  • Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for submittal to clients.
  • Interact closely with project managers and clients to meet project deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in facilities management or building operations.
  • Building Operator Certification (BOC) level 2, or equivalent, preferred.
  • Associate degree in technical field, Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of O&M strategies within common building systems (HVAC, lighting, boilers, controls, etc.), and ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues within those systems.
  • Specific experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or other automated controls systems.
  • Basic understanding of energy and indoor air quality codes and design standards – ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62.1, etc.
  • Proficiency with data analysis using MS Excel.
  • Proficiency with other common computing applications for business (e.g. MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocols.
  • Experience with Energy Modeling software (e.g. eQUEST, EnergyPro, EnergyPlus, TRACE 700, etc) is a plus.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork and interact with clients in a professional and responsive manner.
  • Must have reliable transportation, this position requires travel to customer sites.

AESC is seeking an experienced Energy Engineer to provide support for energy efficiency and demand side management programs in our Carlsbad, California office. The position will focus on focus on technology to market initiatives that promote emergent technologies and strategies to save energy in buildings. Other responsibilities may include whole building facility audits, energy analysis, and project development and management for multiple energy efficiency projects and/or customers.

This position requires strong technical capabilities including knowledge of building systems, energy efficiency and demand side management. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate flexibility, diversity of technical expertise, strong communication skills and excellent customer engagement skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise to support program outreach and customer engagement.
  • Research codes and standards (C&S) and emerging technologies and demonstrations.
  • Conduct energy audits at commercial, industrial and municipal facilities to determine, develop, recommend and help implement projects that result in energy savings.
  • Conduct targeted site inspections to collect data and perform functional testing needed to establish existing equipment/system conditions.
  • Develop project-specific measurement and verification (M&V) plans to support energy savings claims.
  • Install and remove meters and data collection equipment.
  • Use analytical tools and M&V methodologies to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for, enhanced systems and equipment.
  • Perform complex energy and financial analyses leveraging appropriate software and hardware tools.
  • Research and evaluate innovative approaches towards energy efficiency, demand response, energy resiliency and renewable energy.
  • Develop technical reports that summarize project scope, energy savings calculation methodologies, M&V activities, M&V results, key assumptions and recommendations.
  • Keep managers informed of project schedules and progress.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in energy engineering or design engineering (HVAC or process).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • Practical experience and strong working knowledge of various systems in commercial and industrial facilities required.
  • Experience in the energy field, such as energy efficiency, distributed energy generation/combined heat and power, project economics/rate analysis, project design, renewable energy, HVAC, central heating and cooling plants is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience performing in-depth energy audits.
  • Working knowledge of measurement and verification techniques and how to apply International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocols (IPMVP) based on project scope and goals.
  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional and collaborative manner through written reports and excellent oral communication.
  • Proficiency with a variety of energy analysis tools software including expertise in MS Excel.
